Migrating the Software to Another Computer
This guide explains how to move your software (with all data, settings, and license) from one computer to another safely. The process uses the built‑in backup and restore tools, so you don’t need to copy database files manually.
Before you begin
- Ensure you can open the old computer and the software runs.
- Have an external drive or a network folder to carry the backup file.
- Know the administrator password if your version requires it for Save/Load.
What gets migrated
- Database (customers, items, jobs, invoices, etc.)
- Settings and templates (print layouts, formats, email templates)
- Activation/license: The activation is stored in the database, so it moves with your data. If you load an unactivated database later, it will clear activation.
Migrating the software in single-computer and multi-computer (server–client) environments
- Install the software on the new computer
- Download and install the latest version from the official site.
- During installation, keep the default folder.
- When prompted to create an admin password, you can use the same as on the old PC.
- Create a backup on the old computer
- Open the software on the old computer.
- Go to Main Menu > Save Data.
- Enter your password if prompted.
- Choose what to save:
- Database (recommended)
- Settings (recommended)
- Save the backup file (.wdg or .wdb) to an external drive or a network folder. Tip: You can also save only settings by unchecking “Database” if you need to sync formats between machines.
- Restore the backup on the new computer
- On the new computer, open the software.
- Go to Main Menu > Load Data.
- Select the backup file you saved (.wdg or .wdb) and confirm.
- Enter the password of the database (if prompted)
- Wait until the process completes, then restart the software if prompted. Result: Your data, settings, and activation should be identical to the old computer.
Migrating a server–client setup If you run multiple computers and one of them acts as the server.
Option 1 – Move only the server to a new machine
- On the old server, create a backup (Main Menu > Save Data).
- Install the software on the new server machine.
- Set the mode to Server on the new machine (Main Menu > Settings > Database > Mode > Change > Server).
- Load the backup on the new server (Main Menu > Load Data).
- On all client machines, change the server name/IP to the new server:
- Main Menu > Settings > Database > Client settings > Change
- Ensure network rules allow traffic on TCP/UDP port 1527 (Windows Firewall/Antivirus/Router as needed).
Option 2 – Swap roles between a current client and the server
- On the old server: Save Data to a file.
- On the client that will become the new server: Change mode to Server; then Load Data from the saved file.
- On the old server: Change mode to Client.
- On all clients: Update the server name/IP in Client settings.
Special case
In rare situations—such as a full operating system reinstall or a failed hard drive—you may not have a recent backup file, but you still have access to the old installation folder. In this special case, you can migrate your data and settings by copying specific folders and files (database, backups, and settings) from the old installation into the new one.
The steps below explain exactly what to delete from the fresh install and what to copy from the old folder to safely restore your environment without a standard backup.
- Close the software on the new machine.
- From the new installation folder, delete:
- database folder
- backup folder
- Settings_en-**.properties
- Copy these same items from the old installation folder into the new one:
- database folder
- backup folder
- Settings_en-**.properties
- Then start the software.
Troubleshooting
- Activation missing after restore: You likely loaded an older, non‑activated backup. Load your latest activated backup, or request a new activation code from support.
- Client cannot connect to new server:
- Confirm server mode is enabled and running.
- Verify the server name/IP in the client settings.
- Open TCP/UDP port 1527 in Windows Firewall (Advanced Security: inbound and outbound rules) and allow javaw.exe in the standard firewall. Check antivirus/router rules.
- Incorrect number/date/price formats on different machines:
- Export settings on one machine and import on the other:
- Save Data, uncheck “Database,” save only settings.
- Load Data on the other machine from that file.
- Or align format settings in Main Menu > Settings > Format.
- Export settings on one machine and import on the other:
Best practices
- Always perform a fresh backup just before migration.
- Keep at least one previous backup in a separate location (external drive + cloud).
- Do not edit or copy database files while the program is running.
- After migration, verify key functions:
- Open recent records
- Create a test entry/invoice
- Check printouts and email sending
